Year 2012 First Third Recap Posted May 13, 2012 by Mike S.
Well the first third of the Year 2012 season is in books. I want to give one last congrats to Andy and Lis for the birth of their first child. Hopefully it won't effect Andy from still coming to all the games and donating his hard earned money to us! I also want to throw out a big thank you to Jenni, V, Nick, and Andy for their continued "donations" for the games. Rather that be food, snacks, drinks, or beer for pregame activities. Thanks a lot guys! Never think it goes unnoticed!
Just want to point out some changes to the website. The consecutive streak section in the Hall of Fame page is now properly working. I've been putting that one off for quite some time now. That was some bad ass coding to get that to work right. Figured I'd get to working right after Brandon won his 3rd in a row. Also, the player login section is now up and running to the public. By logging in, you modify what information of yours is viewed to other logged in members. You can also view contact information of other members if they so have it available to viewing. You can also RSVP for upcoming games when logged in. The RSVP list for upcoming games on the site is now the official list. If you don't feel like logging in and updating it yourself, I still update the RSVP list manually based on Facebook Event RSVPs, and word of mouth. I have other plans for the member section as well, but I'm not in that big of a hurry to complete them. I only dabble around with the site in my free time. If you currently do not have login information for your account, feel free to send me a message on facebook, send me a text, etc. with a email you want linked to your account and I'll get you setup and running. Lastly, a self updating listing of the Top 9 final game placement/chip count is available for viewing in a link at the bottom of the season display page.
Well on to season play! It's not to hard to tell who's been dominating the season to this point. That has Brandon's name written all over it. Pretty soon we're gonna have to start slipping something in his drinks to take him out of these games...
This season has brought us some new faces. Well not completely new in some respects. This season has brought us the return of Jeremy M. who was on quite a hiatus over the last 2 years. Also, "Big Josh" who's been making more appearances than he has in quite some time. For real new faces, we have Billy B. who's been quietly making a name for himself at the table.
One third into this season, and we're seeing a much different Top 9 playing out than last year! Currently there are 4 new faces in the Top 9 than when last season ended. Jason G., V, Zulli, & Billy B. are all trying to hang on to their positions in the Top 9. We'll see how this plays out as the season progresses. Hopefully we'll have a tight race right down to the wire like last year!
7 in the books, and 12 to go! Don't forget this year's Adam Game in on August 25th, with a 6PM start time. More information on that game will come at a future date.
Players to watch;
B-Jack: 6 games played, 6 times placed. 3 wins with a commanding lead in points. Currently sitting in 1st without challenge at 32.94 points. Not to go unmentioned is his 21 kills. His play has not only dominated the season thus far, but also has caused him to overtake almost all All Time categories in the Hall of Fame.
Sharp: Last year's leader in points at season's end currently sitting in 3rd with 21.20 points. 2 wins and 3 times placed to open the season with a outstanding 30 kills in 7 games!
Weeble: Currently sitting in 5th with 14.90 points, you can't count out last season's champion! He's only placed once to this point, and started the season off kind of rocky, though he's had very solid play in the last 4 games as he tries to get back into form and make a run at another title.
Gary K.: Gary has had spotty attendance, though in this season he's shown in just 2 games that he can make some noise if he wants to. Continued attendance during the season at his current play will put him into position to make a legit run at the Top 9 by season's end.
Players NOT to watch;
Andy C.: What can I say about Andy? He sucks...
Most Improved Player So Far;
Zulli: Nick has shown real solid play at times. He's also made his first cash this year, and is slowly climbing the the Top 9. Nick could be placed even higher than he is with more points than he has. I've personally dogged him out of 4 games with 4 bad beats. Everything he's accomplished this season so far he's also done with 0 rebuys and 1 addon. Only time will tell if he can continue to improve and hold onto his position in the Top 9.
Possible Sleepers;
Heather F.: Heather has shown real solid play to this point. If she can get over the hump in a few games, with continued attendance, she should not have a problem stacking her Top 9 claim by the end of the season.
Jeremy M.: Jeremy's back, with great attendance after a long hiatus. He's had a rough start of the season to this point as he continues to try and shake off the rust. But watch out, he does have the knowledge, and he knows what he's doing. Could he be another new face in the Top 9 by seasons end?
Hope everyone's had a great time to this point. Always remember, we are looking for good people to join us on game night. If you have anyone you know that is interesting in playing, feel free to invite them. A few extra regular attenders and we can really shake up a Top 9 race by the end of the season! Always remember, you are personally vouching for anyone you invite though.
Next game is this Saturday, May 19th. Hope to see you all there! Brandon & I have a impressive beer pong win streak we are looking to continue before the game!
